This full time position of Director of Development creates and implements a strategic approach to fundraising, including major gifts.  Responsible for creating an annual and multi-year fund-raising plan that defines goals and objectives, strategies, sources of support, cultivation activities, solicitation efforts, contacts and actions for the major donor campaign.  Responsible for writing the case statement and all fund raising literature to be used in campaigns and will work with a new donor data management system.  This position will work directly with the board of directors for fund raising.  In addition is responsible for corporate donations, research/grant writing and reporting, newsletters, event planning, in-kind resources, fundraising volunteers and all record keeping of fundraising activities.  The main objective of this position is to raise an increasing amount of funds to assure the organization’s viability.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelors degree and at least three years fund raising experience and have a strong, diverse and successful record of fundraising in a non-profit setting.  

Skill and Competencies

  • previous experience as a Director of Development is preferred along with experience working in a small non profit development office.
  • excellent oral and written communications skills and financial management expertise.
  • posses the ability to work in a one person development office handling all tasks listed and assigned.
  • previous experience working with non profit boards and leading them in fund raising campaigns.
  • event planning experience required.
  • grant writing  and reporting experience with demonstrated track record of obtaining grant funding required.
  • demonstrated ability as a self-starter with high level of initiative and confidence
  • ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • possess proven abilities in donor development, strong nonprofit fundraising skills, and a record of setting and meeting fundraising goals
  • possess the organizational skills needed to maintain files and records and to execute duties in an orderly way.
  • be computer proficient and possess experience using multiple software applications and be willing to learn new programs.
